Work continues to progress on a number of major projects across Greater Lincolnshire that the LEP is supporting with funding from the Government’s Single Local Growth Fund (Growth Deal).
Groundworks started at the end of July in readiness for construction of the first building on the Holbeach Food Enterprise Zone (FEZ) site.
The University of Lincoln’s new the Centre of Excellence in Agri-food Technology will be at the heart of the new FEZ.
It will deliver innovation support services, pioneering research, skills provision and knowledge exchange for agri-food businesses across Lincolnshire and beyond.
The Greater Lincolnshire LEP is contributing £2.4 million towards the project via the Government's Growth Deal; this is in addition to a £3m investment in utilities for the wider FEZ site.
The new Grantham Technology and Innovation Centre is expected to be fitted out during the autumn of 2019 and the University of Lincoln aims to move in before the end of the year.
As well as a multi-screen cinema, the building will house a new centre for the University of Lincoln helping to meet current and future demand for highly skilled jobs and workers.
The total cost of the town centre project, which will also feature a new cinema and retail food outlets, is £6 million and the LEP has contributed £2 million towards the university campus element.
The Skill Capital Investment Fund programme goes from strength to strength: the Digital Skills Centre at New College Stamford is already open and proving extremely popular, and a new Digital and Professional Skills Centre at Lincoln College will deliver high level engineering and manufacturing and health and care skills in partnership with Risual Education Ltd and Microsoft.
The LEP is funding the scheme with a £2.3 million Growth Deal grant. Refurbishment works on the Gibney building on Monks Road in Lincoln are expected to start this summer.
Boston College’s new Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology (EMAT) Centre will contribute to the local economy with both students and local employers reaping the benefits.
The new specialist building now under way will provide outstanding engineering facilities for students and an industry-driven training facility that will stimulate growth and productivity across the sector.
The LEP has contributed £2.8 million towards the centre. Work is on schedule for completion in October 2019 when the first students are expected to enrol.
The University of Lincoln has partnered with the University of Nottingham to establish a new Lincoln Medical School.
Construction work is expected to take place on this high-quality 5,682m2 integrated clinical facility between October 2019 and March 2021. The LEP has provided Growth Deal funding of £5 million to support the scheme which will drive skills development in medicine and allied health subjects, providing the platform to grow the scale and diversity of existing provision from professional development to postgraduate qualification.
Phase two of work on the Grantham Southern Relief Road scheme is about to begin. Once complete this £80m+ scheme will enable a new junction on the A1 south of the town, kickstarting local investment in the adjacent business park and supporting the development of thousands of new homes. The total LEP contribution towards this major project is £28 million.
Last month renovation work started on a former council building in Scunthorpe to create the University Campus North Lincolnshire.
The campus will bring many new opportunities to the area including the very first master’s level course.
The ground floor will be transformed to accommodate a learning environment while keeping key features and the first floor will house an IT room, teaching facilities and a library.
University Campus North Lincolnshire will open to new students in September 2019 and the LEP is contributing £2.3m towards its development.
