LINCOLNSHIRE VOICES - NYLE CHAPMAN
BlogsNyle heads up Learning & Development at Micronclean, sits on Greater Lincolnshire’s Careers Hub Cornerstone Employer Group, and is a member of Team Lincolnshire. Micronclean is a unique business with its HQ on the Lincolnshire coast offering advanced cleaning services which underpin a variety of essential sterilisation services across the UK and was a key player in the fight against Covid-19.
The business has a strong relationship with the University of Lincoln as well as local schools and colleges, and has recently launched new job roles aimed specifically at young people who share their values to join their business, to help them get local work experience during the summer. Nyle joins us in the blog below to share their pioneering work across recruitment and skills embedded in Micronclean’s powerful family ethos.
Micronclean is a textile services and cleanroom consumables business. In short, we wash personal protective equipment (PPE) and manufacture cleaning products, predominantly in cleanroom environments. However, I see Micronclean as much more than this. Our clients range from the NHS and emergency services to various industrial partner areas such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, aeronautics, and food production, with names from British Steel to Toyota, and we’ve been a family run business since the late 1920s.
Our strong family culture is entrenched in our SKIEs values and allows us to offer a high-quality service to our customers, to supply them laundered PPE and cleanroom products that allow large pharmaceutical and industrial businesses to operate. We thrive on innovation. Our ability to innovate within our industry has allowed us to grow over the 100 plus years we have existed. What we offer in terms of products and services is invaluable and brings a real sense of purpose in playing a part in enabling world-class research into things like development of new vaccines and medicines.
Our business now has sites in Skegness, Grantham, and Louth, with customer sites up and down the UK and we have recently benefitted from international expansion by opening a brand-new facility in India too. Our roles here are varied and include product development, IT, HR, health and safety, finance, and sales!
Looking to the future is something that has allowed us to succeed as a business. We’ve recently introduced a yearlong placement scheme to bring undergraduates to experience a year in industry with Micronclean, and from this summer, we will be bringing summer placements not only for undergraduates, but also summer employment for students aged 16-18 years olds. We’re really excited about this and have seen great successes from the students who have worked on year-long projects for us, as they can come in with a fresh pair of eyes and new ideas.
The work we’re doing to try and support a younger generation within the communities we serve is a great fit with the work Micronclean is undergoing as part of the Careers Hub Employer Cornerstone Group, led by the Greater Lincolnshire LEP. We’re actively building better relationships with schools, collaborating with other organisations in sharing best practice around engagement, and are making students aware of some great opportunities on their doorstep, through these schemes. In one pairing, our Operations Director was matched as the Enterprise Adviser for Skegness Academy and as a company we’re actively participating in as many careers activities through schools in Lincolnshire. Being part of the new Careers Hub Cornerstone Employers Group, we are also now regularly liaising with other companies to better understanding best practise on how best to reach and communicate with our employees of the future!
Micronclean is an employer which genuinely cares. As we are seeing the cost of living increase dramatically, and as a minimum, employees enter into Micronclean on the real living wage. We’re always looking for ways to support our employees and offer a range of support and incentives including mental health and wellbeing schemes, such as free counselling. I’ve been with Micronclean for three years, and honestly feel like I’ve never worked anywhere else. I genuinely believe there is a positive culture within Micronclean which is anchored in a powerful family ethos.
