Careers leaders from schools and colleges across North Lincolnshire came together at Humberside Airport for their termly cluster meeting.

Organised by the Greater Lincolnshire Careers Hub, the event offered a valuable opportunity for networking, sharing best practices, and exploring the wide range of career opportunities in the aviation sector.

Throughout the day the airport highlighted both technical roles – such as air traffic controller, aircraft engineer and avionics technician – and non-technical positions, including flight dispatcher, flight attendant, and customer service representative.

By encouraging collaboration and knowledge exchange, the meeting significantly enhanced the participants’ ability to guide students towards fulfilling careers, ultimately contributing to the region’s economic growth and workforce development.

Among those contributing on the day were staff from Air Traffic Services, Senior Airport Fire Officer Rick Phillips, and John Garrison, the airport’s Technical Services Manager.

“Humberside Airport provided some great insights into the various careers in aviation and the opportunities for students to work in some fascinating roles,” said Enterprise Coordinator Hayley Beardmore.

“Careers leaders and teachers can now take these messages back into the classroom, and we are looking forward to coordinating some meaningful experiences of the workplace for students in the near future.”

Wendy Wright, HR and Payroll Manager at Humberside Airport, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many local schools and colleges to our site recently and to profile the many exciting careers in aviation that we can offer to students.

“Several of our long-standing current employees were happy to discuss their own experiences of working through internal training and processes to achieve the important roles they perform today.”

Hayley Beardmore and Debbie Boon attended from the Careers Hub, which is delivered by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership. Also attending were careers leads from Somercotes Academy, Baysgarth School, Outwood Academy Foxhills, South Axholme Academy, Options Barton, Trent View College in Scunthorpe, Frederick Gough School in Scunthorpe, North Lindsey College, St Hugh’s School in Scunthorpe, University Campus North Lincolnshire, Sir John Nelthorpe School in Brigg, Humberside Fire and Rescue, Winterton Community Academy and North Lincolnshire Council.
